Time Passes

I’m looking back, recalling early memories from times long past. What do I remember? Although “Time Passes” may be considered an abstract painting, like most of my work it’s concerned with personal memory. In it I question the reliability of recollections with the passage of time.

I like this and it makes me feel as if either I am climbing uphill or there’s a flow coming downhill, and then I think it’s both at once. When you mention memories it makes me think of memories that overwhelm with maybe too much detail.

Thanks Claudia. I was remembering times when as a young boy growing up in idyllic Welsh countryside with woodland, farmland and a river as my playground. However, my thoughts would often wander to the many workers, toiling, deeply below the surface following the seam of coal, in a very different environment. Many lived in the same village as me.

I see that in the picture, the memory you describe. I grew up in Tennessee in the middle of the state, which is hilly and with limestone right under the soil (any kind of excavations or erosions exposed it) so there were caves and gullies. Your picture, now that you mention your memory, then reminded me of those time and how what is right under the surface can hide or can be exposed (if you dig a bit).
